A Windy Downtown Dallas Rooftop Wedding at Venue 400 N Ervay: David and Brooke’s Perfect Day
Hey everyone! We’re The MacMeekens, your favorite wedding photography team based right here in Dallas, Texas. We recently had the absolute pleasure of photographing David and Brooke’s downtown Dallas rooftop wedding at 400 N Ervay. Let’s share their story with you!
The Beginning- A Nasher Sculpture Center Engagement Session
We met Brooke & David through their amazing wedding planner, Kathy Bull with Plan It With Me. From the start, it was clear that David was a bit camera-shy. We totally get it—having a lens pointed at you all day can be pretty daunting. That’s why they chose us as their Dallas documentary wedding photographers! Our full-day candid wedding photography coverage was just what David needed to get used to the camera and allow him to authentically enjoy his special day without feeling like he was constantly being pulled away for photo ops.
To kick off the celebrations, we planned a totally custom engagement session experience for them. David and Brooke wanted that iconic Downtown Dallas vibe but were a bit concerned about having “all eyes on them” during the session. So, we came up with a brilliant solution—we reserved the Nasher Sculpture Center’s private outside garden. It offered the perfect mix of downtown urban goodness while giving them the privacy to be their authentic selves without extra eyes.
After the session, we grabbed tacos and spicy margaritas downtown. It was great to see David begin to let his guard down and hear more about Brookes adventures. Seeing the way Brooke lit up when looking at David and how he made her laugh was incredible.
The Wedding Day Prep at The Joule Dallas
Fast forward to their wedding day, which started with Brooke getting ready at The Joule Hotel while David hung back at their private residence with his groomsmen. The Joule was stunning with a breathtaking view and Brooke’s suite was buzzing with excitement. From the champagne towers, jumping on the bed and Father of the Bride playing on the TV in the background, there was so much laughter and joy in the air. The Joule’s luxurious ambiance set the perfect tone for the epic day ahead.
The Rooftop Ceremony
We took a quick shuttle ride from The Joule to 400 N Ervay accompanied by sweet music to the tune of Goin To The Chapel. After a quick reveal and hug from her brother, Brooke was ready for a private moment with David. The two sat back to back and held hands, eagerly awaiting their I Do.
The ceremony took place on the windy rooftop of 400 N Ervay, overlooking the breathtaking Dallas skyline. There’s something incredibly romantic about a rooftop wedding, especially with the cityscape as your backdrop, a setting sun and a fresh breeze blowing across your face. Ahhhhh.
While the wind added a bit of drama to the proceedings, was just the perfect dose of drama to set the mood. Brooke’s veil kept blowing in her face, and she was absolutely laughing hysterically. The photo of the moment David decided to help battle the windy veil while Brooke stood cracking up is one of my absolute favorite ceremony moments.
The Reception- A Colorful and Vibrant Celebration
The reception was held downstairs in the same venue, 400 N Ervay, and oh boy, it was spectacular! Brooke and David chose a colorful and vibrant color palette that perfectly popped against the Downtown Dallas skyline and historic courthouse setting. The room was packed with bold, colorful florals by Petals Couture and a custom dance floor by Center Stage Floors that invited everyone to let loose. There was so much love in the air, and the energy was infectious. From heartfelt toasts to lively dance moves, it was a night to remember. They ended the night with a grand exit down the historic venues courthouse steps before journeying off downtown officially as partners for life.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Being documentary wedding photographers, we were thrilled to capture every candid moment of their day. Our goal is always to tell the story of our couples in the most authentic way possible, and this wedding was a perfect example of that. Every laugh, every gust of wind, and dance move was a testament to the magic of their day, their love and the incredible support of their friends and family.
We are so grateful to have been part of this wedding and to work alongside such a fantastic team. If you’re planning a Dallas wedding and want a rooftop ceremony with an unbeatable view, or if you’re just looking for a Dallas wedding photographer who will capture your day in a genuine, unobtrusive way, we’d love to chat!
Until next time, The MacMeekens
